Make way for the August Kit reveal @ Frog Dog Studio!

This month at Frog Dog Studio, we've got two amazing kits to share with you!
Here's a look at the truly gorgeous mixed media kit:

I am in LOVE with everything about this kit...the wood embellishments are gorgeously handmade, and that ephemera sheet is my new favorite.

I created a sea-themed wall hanging with my kit:

After altering the white bag that the kit comes in, I decorated the front with a set of 6 ATC's.

I filled the inside of the bag with paper+photo groupings, and let the kids write favorite oceanside memories on the back of each one:

For my 2nd project, I created a series of ATC inside cellophane bags...that way I could add confetti & other fun little loose tidbits!

I'm telling you, the glitter paste in this kit is awesome...it has so many uses & I love how it takes color & builds for layering.

This month, I also had the chance to play with Frog Dog's scrapbooking add-on kit.  It features gorgeous papers from Fabscraps, and some gorgeous chipboard, washi, and rhinestone trim.  Plus three different art mediums to get messy with!

Here are my layouts:

To check out all the amazing DT projects, head to the Frog Dog blog HERE.

I'll hope you'll join me later in the month for more details & tutorials about the mixed media techniques I used on all these fun projects!

It's that time...CHA Wish List Pt. 1

You know how I love makin' my CHA wish-lists!  Since I wasn't able to attend CHA, I've spent way too much time poring over online sneaks+catalogs to put together my wish-list for this summer's show.

Today, I'm sharing some of favorite new non-holiday products ...and since CHA Summer focuses on holiday/themed lines, I will do a Part II to share those later.

Up first, Mixed Company by Heidi Swapp.  This line's color palette is so exciting to me!  I first fell in love with the blue floral/confetti paper, followed by being equally smitten with the transparent embellishments and glitter sentiments! Love.

Up next, Bo Bunny has a new Kraft line that I'm so excited about...seriously, how perfect are these for my glasses-wearing, mustache-loving daughter?

And for ME, I can't wait to alter this mini-album from The Avenues collection:

The fresh geometrics and colors in this new Cosmo Cricket line are calling my name:

And I have to have every single overlay pack that Crate Paper is releasing...love this bokeh one:

And probably every chipboard frame pack too...look at these embroidery hoops!

Plus...gold washi tape paper?! Can't wait:

I love the simple versatility and fresh icons featured in this new Pink Paislee collection:

And I love these heart brads from Prima:

My must-have stencil is definitely this one from The Crafter's Workshop:

I'll be back to share my favorite upcoming holiday lines later...what are your CHA faves so far?

CSI Case #81 + Frog Dog Studio...

I'm happy to be a guest detective this month at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration.
Frog Dog Studio is a sponsor this month, giving away the July kit to a lucky CSI winner:

Here is the gorgeous CSI Case File #81:

And here is what I created with it:

I used lots of goodies from June & July Frog Dog kits on this layout:  pattern tissue paper, distress paint, ephemera, twine, wood letters, etc.  Perfect for this challenge color palette!

From the inspiration prompt, I used the following:

1. Woodgrain
2. Bird
3. Twine
4. Glossy Accents
5. Circles
6. Textured Paper
7. List 6 awesome things

What a fun challenge!  I especially loved the color palette, and the prompt to list 6 awesome things...it was a great way to journal some current thoughts about my sweet girl.

If you decide to play along with the challenge, let me know...I'd love to see what you create!

Crate + Polka Dots...

I'm happy to be featured again for the Crate Paper Creative Weekly!
For June, the challenge was all about polka dots...I created this:

I started with the background text paper, which already had several circles cut out of it.  I thought it looked great over the top of the Dreamy paper, which I positioned so there would be a soft-focus circle in each frame.
Then I gathered some polka-dot Crate embellishments, and added clear dots and embossed vellum too.

Love this photo of my little one...it was the first official day of summer break, and she wanted me to spray the sprinkler-hose over her new bubble umbrella.  Fun, summery times. :)

Mixed Media + Frog Dog = Heaven!

I'm thrilled to be part of the fabulous Tina Walker's mixed media kit club, Frog Dog Studio!

Blog followers here know that I'm a fan of art mediums as well as anything vintage...well, this kit has both!  I love the vintage vibe of the ephemera sheet, and I love the versatile combo of distress paint, full-size multi-medium, and crackle accents! Add to that an adorable mini box + Tim Holtz hinges, and I'm in love.

July's kit was a pleasure to create with, here's a look at what you get:

And here's a look at my projects:

I created this nature box for my youngest daughter to collect her treasures in...there is already a pebble and an acorn in there! :)
Inside there is a little mini album, for her to document her nature observations in:

I used some fun techniques with paint, pens, and crackle accents, as well as a multi-medium transfer technique.  Look for some video tutorials on these techniques coming up later this month!

Next up is a page in my art journal...reminding me to slow down and enjoy this summertime with my little ones:

The washi tape layers so well with the distress paints, and I love the look of the gesso-clouds with the crackle paint on top.

Lastly, an ATC, attaching the butterflies only half-way with the multi-medium, for a fun, dimensional look.

So, if you've been thinking  about giving mixed media a try, this is a great way to jump in and get started!  Each month there will be lots of video & photo tutorials, to walk you through how to use each art medium in the kit.  And the design team is so inspirational, check out their current work on the blog HERE.

Sketch Challenge with OA...

Popping in quickly to share my sketch challenge layout for THIS post over at October Afternoon.

This year for Father's Day, the girls set up an old-west saloon theme for their Daddy, complete with costumes, a distressed sign, and country accents.

At first glance, you might not see the resemblance to the sketch, but I promise it started out as the inspiration, lol!

I started with a linear photo/embellishment block, but then I found this star paper with a big circle already cut out, and knew I wanted to use it on the layout.  So my photo/embellishment grid morphed to fit this new shape, and I love how it turned out.

Y'all come back now, ya hear?! :)
